Before Juliana VanLaanen became the founder of an award-winning toy company, she was simply a mom on a mission. She wasn't searching for mass-produced toys cluttering her home; she was seeking something deeper—imagination, nature, and meaningful connection. That small but powerful desire sparked 2MamaBees, a brand that's now redefining childhood play across America.

In 2019, what began as a humble Etsy store quickly blossomed into a luxury toy company. But for Juliana, success wasn’t measured by sales alone. It was about nurturing childhoods, building dreams that last, and leaving a legacy families could be proud of.

Mom, Maker, and Entrepreneur: Building Dreams from Scratch

Frustrated with the lack of durable, inspiring toys, Juliana decided to build what she couldn't find: handcrafted playhouses and swing sets that merge design, sustainability, and imagination. Collaborating with Amish artisans, 2MamaBees crafts products using heirloom-quality materials, non-toxic finishes, and thoughtful touches like real-plant window boxes and seed-paper manuals you can actually plant.

“I wanted children to feel connected to nature and creativity, and parents to feel proud of what they were bringing home,” Juliana says. It wasn’t about creating another toy—it was about sparking childhood memories rooted in the real world.

Challenging the Norms: Women Leading in Manufacturing

Entering the male-dominated world of manufacturing wasn’t easy. Suppliers, investors, and even some customers were surprised to see two women leading the charge.

"Every 'no' only forced us to improve the mission and the product," Juliana reflects. Their persistence paid off—2MamaBees secured major retail partnerships with Target, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Saks Fifth Avenue, and even FAO Schwarz.

Choosing U.S.-based manufacturing and eco-conscious practices often made growth more difficult, but Juliana stood firm: quality and sustainability would never be compromised.

Playtime With a Purpose

Beyond building enchanting playhouses, 2MamaBees embeds purpose into every purchase. The company supports:

  • The BumbleBee Foundation’s efforts for pediatric cancer patients

  • American Forests’ reforestation initiatives

  • Dec My Room’s hospital room makeovers for long-term patients

“Success should impact more than just your balance sheet. It should leave the world better than you found it,” Juliana insists. It's this heart-centered approach that has made 2MamaBees more than a brand—it’s become a movement.

Advice to Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs: Start Before You’re Ready

Juliana offers honest, inspiring advice to women—especially mothers—stepping into entrepreneurship: "You don't need to have all the answers to start." She encourages embracing the inevitable ups and downs: "Entrepreneurship is never linear — there will be moments of doubt and setbacks." Each challenge, she believes, builds resilience and refines your vision.

And her ultimate guidance? Build from your values. “Create something that reflects your values. The difference you wish to make is more important than the product alone.”

Beyond Toys: A Legacy of Care

Juliana VanLaanen’s journey with 2MamaBees is a testament to how businesses built with heart can transform industries. She didn’t just set out to create beautiful playhouses—she created a lasting impact on families, communities, and the planet.

Because at 2MamaBees, it’s not just about toys—it’s about teaching the next generation that everything, and everyone, grows stronger when built with care.
